Shangai Chanel

This was the week of spectacular shows. On Thursday night Chanel debut is pre-fall collection with an extravagant runway show in Shangai. Aimed to catch the imagination of the new Chinese luxury consumer there was a video presentation before the show shot by Karl Lagerfeld; in it he envisions the trip to asia Coco Chanel would have made. Madame Chanel gets a chance to tell Chinese people the quilting of the Chanel 2.55 was their invention.

The new genre of story telling: The Fashion Film

Jefferson Hack mentioned at the IHT Luxury Conference the new genre of story telling: the Fashion Film.

YSL AW 08/09
As I recall, this was the first time video replaced the runway presentation. It was no surprise that YSL's creative director Stefano Pilati collaborated on this with SHOWtudio; the pioneer website that brought fashion in a multimedia platform to the web.
Directors: Chris Sweeney and Sarah Chatfield

Story Telling

The Lady Dior, Lady Noir with movie star Marion Cotillard is the first time a campaign was built around the story told in a mini film. Toledano, president of Dior declared he now found print advertising formula "wanting". There are two more installments in the making.

Short film for Jonathan Kelsey's Fall 2009 collection, directed by Sara Dunlop and starring Joana Preiss.
This particular film is trend driven with its vampire theme.

Halston AW 08/09 Collection.
To launch the collection Halston invited editors to the premier of their film online.

As a footnote:
I an venturing out to say that the perfume industry, more specifically Chanel No.5, pioneered story telling of a brand in short films.

Dysfashional Vernissage

The scene upon arriving at the Dysfashional vernissage in Paris, from October 30th to November 29th.

Collages made to look like Vogue covers by designer Bernhard Willhelm.

This piece was part of the Parasite piece produced by Bless; what was particularly interesting is that it looked like porcelain, but it was plastic. I was rather taken by it. This particular installation was inspired by the apartments and living space of fashion personalities which embody Paris and Berlin style

HBO's documentary Schmatta: Rags to Riches to Rags, Marc Levin’s history of the Garment District is part cultural history and part fashion history. Every country has its garment district; Paris for example has the Sentier.
For any one wondering what NYC designers mean when referring to the garment district, this is it.

Fendi-Oh No

The best part of the Fendi party during Paris SS0 collections was the LED board. This is filed under pretty image but nothing is happening video.... The party sort of had the right elements to be great, but Pixie Lott was no Beth Ditto or Amy Winehouse. Never mind the strange smell that lingered in the club all night.

H&M F09

The new H&M Campaign shot by Terry Richardson reminded me of a Russian Vogue editorial I had seen a while back with one of my favorite accessories of S09: the Givenchy bow headband.
